Welcome to МагIарул мацI, the first site on the internet in English devoted to the Avar language.
Avar, like most other Caucasian languages, is very poorly documented on the net. Even in Russian (the main second language of Avars, and the source language of most of the material on this site) there is scant information available. In other languages there is even less (though a few sites have appeared recently, in German and in French).
The purpose of this site is to fill in this information gap and make it possible for interested people to learn Avar through English (and eventually have these pages translated to other languages, especially Russian and Turkish, to make the contents available to a wider audience.
